New Director of Music for St Saviour's

After an exhaustive process and with four good candidates the selection committee has recommended that the Dean appoint Ms Barbara Griffin as our New Musical Director. The Cathedral Wardens and Council have enthusiastically endorsed the decision.

Barbara comes to us with extensive experience in Anglican church music and the wider music industry.

Barbara is originally from New Zealand, and former Sydneysider who tree-changed to the Southern Highlands in 2013.  She has had a career as a professional musician, screen composer, arranger and published composer/writer/producer signed to Sony/ATV.

Classically trained in Piano and Organ, Barbara studied at Dr Hoch’s Konservatorium in Frankfurt, Germany and Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. A former Cathedral chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral in Wellington, and a long-time church organist both in New Zealand and more recently at the Parish of Sutton Forest, Barbara also founded the Bundanoon Sings! community choir which she ran for a year as Artistic Director.

Barbara has written, recorded and toured with many of Australia’s top artists, including Delta Goodrem, Alex Lloyd, Christine Anu, Jenny Morris, and Jon Stevens, and even wrote a song for Joe Cocker.

Barbara says that is excited and grateful for her new position, and looks forward to upholding the excellent musical tradition of St Saviour’s Cathedral and serving the greater community.

Barbara is also a committed Christian who hopes that providing beautiful music will continue to inspire worship; and through concerts and special events, also attract new parishioners to the Cathedral.

The Dean said that he is looking forward to the exciting possibilities of this new beginning.
